Local charity ‘Save Your Rights’, in conjunction with the Luton South Ward Community First (Community Development  Foundation) and Diverse FM, is organising a major conference to raise awareness about forced marriage.

The conference will be held on Wednesday, 26 March 2015 at the University of Bedfordshire (11 am – 5 pm).  Registration and refreshments will be available from 11 am.  The programme will commence at 12 noon.

This is a unique opportunity to hear a distinguished panel of speakers talk about this important topic.

Do you know forced marriage is a crime?  Well it was outlawed by the government last year! 

Do you know or support a victim of forced marriage?

Are you interested in learning more or raising awareness about this human rights abuse?

Volunteers needed for ‘Charity Conference’ an experts gathering to raise awareness and provide informal education to students, community and professionals.

 

SYR organising a conference event at University of Bedofordshire (funded by CDF) on the topic ‘Do you know forced marriage is a crime?’, which aims to educate people and raise awareness about FM issues. The conference will be open to professionals, students and members of the community.

 

For the purposes of the organising the event and successfully delivery of the event, we are in search of some volunteers from Luton, Aylesbury and Bedford area. Volunteers will have opportunity to work with expert professionals and some high profile individuals. The conference will extensively cover legal and social agenda.

 

We are looking for:

  • Flyers distributor
  • Admin assistant
  • Presenter
  • Campaigner
  • Event assistant
  • Anyone that can help in delivering conference
  • Filming
  • Photographer
  • Film editor

FAQ’s

Am I the right sort of person?

If you feel passionate about people’s rights and the consequences of forced marriages then this is for you. We will provide you with training to enable you carry out your role.

 

What commitment is needed?

We will fit in around your personal commitments and find a role to suit you such as filming, admin, campaigning, event planning or even Facebook campaign.

Save Your Rights Charity Conference.

Save Your Rights cordially invites you to attend the charity conference in raising awareness and talking about the problems in regards to human rights and forced marriages (from civil and legal prospective). The conference will highlight the shortcomings faced by society when it comes to facing such issues, legal challenges, implementation of new legislation, precautions and preventatives, and what can be done to help strive for a better future.

The event is to be held on 26 March 2015.

The world is currently faced with a number of colossal struggles such as global warming, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the recent credit crunch. Another burning universal issue, affecting millions of people across the world that gets little publicity is, forced marriages.

Save Your Rights campaign is committed to ending forced marriages in Aylesbury Vale, that rob people of their basic human rights. We are organising various activities to raise awareness about the dire consequences of forced marriages.

We are urging like-minded people from all walks of life and from across all our communities to support our work to put an end to this inhuman practice, and help us to build a brighter future.

In Aylesbury (SYR) are going to launch a mass campaign in September, followed by a Debate and Seminar. We need your support to help us to organise this event or to join our campaigning team raising awareness in schools, the college and with the public in shopping centre’s and at events.

Why should I give my time to the (SYR)?
There are many reasons to get involved with the project. It is a great opportunity to promote human rights, save many individuals, and build a better community.
